Hack.lu 2015

Frënn vun der Ënn A.S.B.L. was part of this years HACK.LU. We had a booth together with the Chaos Computer Club Lëtzebuerg where we had the chance to speak about Tor, our mission and online privacy. The booth was well visited and the interested crowd was happy to support us with donations. To show our appreciation we gifted our donors with posters, stickers and Tails USB sticks. In 3 days we could collect 146€ in donations.

There was the idea of doing a talk this year but didn't want to do the same talk as last time. The HACK.LU Team come up with the idea of doing an auction to raise money for our association. That idea sounded nice but also put us in the position of acting quickly.
What should we put to auction? Where do we get the items? Would everything arrive on time?!
So we used our connections to the community, fired up our Twitter- and mailclients and contacted people. What happened next was pretty cool. We got positive answers from people all over the world! People were willing and glad to help us out.
Many thanks to:

Laura Poitras and Yoni Golijov for the signed copies of the 9/11 box containing “Citizen Four”, “The Oath” and “My Country, My Country”
Bruce Schneier for the signed ( and encrypted ;) ) copies of “Data and Goliath”
@JC_SoCal for the attribution dice.
Andrea Barisani for the USB armory.
Richard Stiennon for the “There Will Be Cyberwar” copies.
Joxean Koret for the copies of “The Antivirus Hacker's Handbook”
Librairie ABC for the copies of “1984”, “Brave New World”, “Little Brother” and “Homeland”
Chaos Computer Club Lëtzebuerg for the shirts, the helping hands and the co-hosting of the booth.
Claus Cramon Houmann for the Apple Watch, the moderation, the good connections to the IT Community and the motivation. This guy is awesome and deserves a beer.
Alexandre Dulaunoy for organizing and running the HACK.LU conferences and that this guy auctioned a lot of stuff ;)

We raised 740€ in under 20 minutes! This money will be used to power our existing Tor nodes and expand the Tor network.

The good mood, talks, workshops and support of all the HACK.LU attendees made this conference a great success. We hope to see you all next year!
